Experts say wearing shape wear like Spanx could have some long-term health consequences.
Dr. Holly Phillips appeared on CBS This Morning, Tuesday morning to explain their dangers.
"Just like with girdles and corsets we saw a lot of rib compression and lung problems back in the day. Well shape wear is the new girdle, so now we're actually starting to see side effects from that. In my practice, I've seen nerve compression. That's tingling and numbness going down the outer thigh or in the groin,” she said.
Abdominal distention and skin problems can also be side effects. But Dr. Phillips says it isn't just women, she says men who wear shape wear can also be affected.
She says 'thigh shapers', which are shorts that hold the lower part of your body in, can increase the risk of getting blood clots.
