Spring Allergies May Arrive Early

Because of Wisconsin's mild winter, spring allergy sufferers may be sneezing and wheezing even longer this season.

Dr. David Edmondson, a pediatric and adult allergist with ENT Associates in Wausau, says along with warmer temperatures comes allergens.

But he says it's still too early for pollen allergies.

"I still think we're on the tail end of a lot of infections right now because we've been hit with a lot of common colds and all of that can lead to persistent nasal symptoms: stuffy nose, runny nose," he said.

Typically spring allergies begin in April, but that may be pushed up a bit if the warm trend continues.

Right now Dr. Edmondson has been busy with people coming in with upper airway problems, like coughing, sneezing and shortness of breath.

He says there are irritants out there including early mold, dust and things blown in from other areas.
