Protecting Infants From SIDS
Every year, infants die from SIDS.
It's an unexplained death that occurs during sleep.
But health officials say there are some things you can do to prevent it.
First, you should never put the baby in bed with you, because you could roll over on top of the infant, causing suffocation.
"Babies should never be placed on water beds. Babies should never be placed on couches. Not in an adult bed with lots of blankets and pillows. Baby need to be in their crib, alone, and placed on their back to sleep," says Marathon County Medical Examiner, John Larson.
According to leaders with Portage County Health Services, more than 2,000 infants die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome each year.
