Updated: Mon 9:15 PM, Jan 23, 2012

A book by a local author is shedding some light on dementia.

It's called "A Funny Thing Happened on my Way to the Dementia Ward: Memoir of a Male CNA." The book was written by Charles Schoenfeld of Wausau. He talks about his experiences as a CNA on dementia unit at North Central Health Care, and about the residents he grew to know.

He says, "It's an emotional roller coaster, you lose people, you watch families suffering, but yet, there are little joys, little victories, it all created a situation that told me I need to write a book." The book also gives families of loved ones suffering from dementia resources.

It costs just $15 and can be found at Janke Bookstore,Book Finders in Stevens Point, Book World in Stevens Point, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, and Merrill. You can also find it in the gift shop at Aspirus.
