Health Care Law Giving 47 Million Women Control over Care

The new health care bill gives women control over their care. Previously, some insurance companies did not cover preventative services for women under their health plans.

Under the new law, women will also have birth control options. Even though the law is considered in effect, providers don’t have to make the adjustment right away.

Leaders at Ministry Health Care, say they’ll wait until the whole plan goes into effect.

Karla Ashenhurst, Director of Government Affairs for Ministry said, “ We are expecting a final regulation to come out from the Obama administration but possibly not until the fall election if he is re-elected. We’ll deal with that final regulation at that time.”

Another concern with the law for organizations like Ministry is the coverage of contraceptives, since they are affiliated with the Catholic Church. Leaders say some of the mandates under the new law are not in line with their ethical or religious directives.
