EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) -- Two more cases of whooping cough have been reported in Wisconsin, this time in Eau Claire County.

The city/county health department informed parents in the School District of Fall Creek of the confirmed cases. Superintendent Joe Sanfelippo tells WEAU-TV the confirmations came late last week.

The Eau Claire cases follow other reports of whooping cough in recent weeks, from Milwaukee to Racine and Menomonee Falls.

Milwaukee Health Department director Paul Biedrzycki says the city had 12 confirmed cases last month, twice the number of cases usually reported in November.

Whooping cough is a contagious bacterial infection that affects the respiratory system. It's generally treated with a five-day course of antibiotics.
