There have been eleven confirmed cases of whooping cough reported in the last two weeks in Wood County.
The disease, also known as pertussis, is spread by droplets produced by coughing.
The condition appears to be a cold for the first couple of weeks, but later worsens.
Patients have explosive coughing, often followed by vomiting and exhaustion.
Anyone showing symptoms should go to a doctor for testing. Health experts encourage immunization checks for pertussis, especially if you have contact with babies.
