FOND DU LAC, Wis. (AP) -- A student at Marian College in Fond du Lac has bacterial meningitis.
The college says the freshman is currently being treated at an Appleton hospital and that his health is improving.
College staff is contacting anyone who may have had close contact with him and offering antibiotics as a precaution.
Those with casual classroom contacts are generally not at risk for developing the disease.
The infection can cause infection of the bloodstream and inflammation of the lining of the spinal cord and brain.
