MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (AP) -- Police in Wisconsin say it appears a Racine man was drunk when he tried to steal two frozen turkeys from a store in Mount Pleasant.

The Journal Times of Racine reports 58-year-old Leon Vaughn has been charged with misdemeanor theft and bail jumping.

A criminal complaint says Vaughn attracted attention at the Walmart Neighborhood Market by eating loose nuts on a counter. Then an employee saw Vaughn leave the store with a frozen turkey in each hand.

The complaint says Vaughn tried to hide the turkeys behind a van in the parking lot. He told police his wife purchased the birds, but store records showed no turkey sales that day.

Officers noted Vaughn had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. A listed phone number for Vaughn couldn't be found.
