It's been a tough couple of months for the Reeves family. Back in December the family of four was involved in a car accident that totaled their then new truck. Now just this week they lost their home to a fire.

"It's hard not to cry because everything we worked for is gone. Our whole life... our house... it's just destroyed," Jessica Reeves told NewsChannel 7.

For Jessica and her husband Joshua, Tuesday is a day they'll never forget.

"My husband woke up and said there is a fire... Once I realized we couldn't put it out and it was too big and it was up in the ceiling so it was too high we couldn't even reach it, we just grabbed the kids and got out because the house was filling with smoke," Reeves said re-living the events the morning of the fire.

Emergency crews still aren't sure what caused the fire. Although the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department does confirm they're closely examining the Reeves wood stove, which was burning at the time. However, Jessica and Joshua believe the blaze may have been ignited by old wires in the attic.

The Reeves do not have renters insurance, as both Jessica and Joshua aren't working right now and couldn't afford it. Jessica told NewsChannel 7 that she never thought something like this would happen to her. Without insurance money, rebuilding isn't an option. Now all that's left are memories of happier times. But the Reeves say there is a silver lining to this terrible situation.

"We're alive and that's the most important thing. I mean everything in the house can be replaced," Reeves explained.

On top of being grateful to just be alive after their smoke detectors failed to go off, the family is blown away by how much their community cares.

"I had no idea how many people were so nice. People have baked us food and brought food over. They're bringing clothes over. All the people that are being so nice and it's really surprising," Reeves said.

Jessica, Joshua and their two girls Vanessa, 5, and Maddelyn, 1, all made it out of the home unscathed. Their two dogs, Emma and Beth, and the family cat also made it out of the blaze unharmed.
