The Merrill Fire Ranger is advising the winter burning rules may be removed as early as Monday.

Melting snow is finally exposing enough land that most people burning will be required to secure a burning permit from the DNR prior to burning. With that other DNR restrictions take effects, such as waiting until 6:00 PM to burn and regulating the size of your burn.

If you need a permit you can contact your local fire warden. A complete list of burning rules is available on the DNR's website at http://dnr.wi.gov/.
