Organizers of the 2nd Annual Big Hairy Deal say they collected 85 ponytails and raised nearly $2,400.
The event was held Sunday, February 24 at the Neillsville High School fieldhouse.
All money received from pledges, the raffle, concessions, and general donations will be forwarded to the National Alopecia Areata research fund.

Dozens of people from all over central Wisconsin have spent the majority of the year growing our their hair for the 2nd annual “Big Hairy Deal” in Neillsville. The event asks people to collect pledges, although it's not necessary, and donate at least eight inches of their hair. The ponytails are sent to Locks of Love and the pledges are donated to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.
Locks of Love is charity program that creates wigs using real hair for children suffering from any disease where they'd need to wear a hair piece. An organizer for this year's event, Marcia Gross says children comprise over 80 percent of the hair donors to Locks of Love. Last year's youngest donor at the Big Hairy Deal was 3-year-old.
Donors must have a minimum of eight inches to donate. If you have ten or more inches cut off, it will be sent to the Locks of Love, eight to ten inches will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
The event will be held Sunday, February 24 from 1 to 4 pm Neillsville High School Fieldhouse,
Participants can arrive at 12:15 to select stylist and turn in pledges collected. Participant will have their hair cut and styled for free by local beauticians.
