Update: Accidental Hunting Death in Douglas County

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities in northern Wisconsin say a deer hunter who was killed this week was apparently shot when his hunting buddy fired at a deer and missed.

The Douglas County sheriff's department identified the victim as 27-year-old Garrett M. Carr of Oliver.

Authorities say Carr was hunting Monday with 31-year-old Michael F. Thompson of Superior. Warden Dave Zebro says a preliminary investigation suggests that Thompson fired at a deer but the bullet hit Carr in the head.

A Duluth News Tribune report (http://bit.ly/UW3hQW ) says Carr was wearing blaze-orange clothing but his hat was dark. Zebro says hunters' hats have to be at least half blaze-orange.

He says the shooting serves as a reminder for hunters to be properly attired, and for shooters to be absolutely certain of their targets.
