"United We Can" Aims to End Hunger in Marathon County

Updated: Thu 6:35 PM, Jun 21, 2012

You'll be seeing some interesting sculptures inside the Wausau Center Mall on June 21st. It's all part of the 3rd annual "United We Can" event.

Teams come together to build unique sculptures out of non-perishable foods. All that food is then distributed among food pantries across Marathon County. Last year's event was so successful; they raised 10 tons of food! This year, they're hoping to top that.

If you don't want to build anything, though, you can still participate; you can vote for the best sculpture. Each vote will either cost you $1 or one non-perishable food item. The voting will take place on Thursday, June 21st during the event, which begins around 10am at the Wausau Center Mall.

Hunger is a growing problem, specifically in our area, and now more than ever, food pantries need our help. Summers are one of the toughest times for the pantries because kids are out of school and are eating another meal at home; a meal that, in some cases, their parents can't afford to provide.
