A 16-year-old driver accused of hitting a 7-year-old child with his car and fleeing the scene last November, has entered into a deferred judgment agreement, meaning if he stays out of trouble until his 18th birthday the charge will be amended from misdemeanor hit and run to failing to notify police of an accident.

Marathon County Sheriff's Deputies say on November 15, 2012 the teen was driving on Robin Lane and turned left onto Highway R in Rib Mountain. At the same time, a crossing guard was escorting a group of children through the intersection. The driver struck one of the children and drove away. The child was was not seriously injured, but was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Initially, the teen was issued three traffic citations- inattentive driving, failure to notify police of an accident, and hit and run causing injury. However the case was reviewed and prosecutors recommended a charge of misdemeanor hit and run.

The teen, who we will not name since he is a minor, was found about four hours after the accident.
