In the case of a tragedy like the Boston Bombing, emergency responders rely heavily on the use of technology.
One of those tools here in Marathon County, is the Emergency Operations Center located inside City Hall in Wausau,
It’s the program they use though, that allows them to help emergency personnel out in the field. It’s called E-sponder.
It’s a situational event handling program and when its used, the people inside the EOC can direct resources like volunteers or even mutual aid from inside the room to a certain location near the scene via the internet.
This helps the Incident Commander on site not get overwhelmed, and helps him focus on live saving, and live sustaining operations.
Emergency Management Director, Steve Hagman said, “We have to understand what’s going on in the field and then we can direct the right resources there to help and do whatever is necessary.”
In the case of an event where the Federal Government might get involved, the EOC would offer their local resources because they know them well. They’ll then be directed by whatever agency may be helping and specialized in the field that relates to the emergency.
