Local athletes will head to Rib Mountain Saturday morning for the 5th Annual WRUT 'N Run.
Unlike most races, runners tackle trails carved into Rib Mountain. Most challenging of the races are the 2-hour Solo WRUT and the 4-hour Team WRUT. Participants run a 2 mile loop up Rib Mountain. Winners are those who complete the most loops in the allotted time.
The WRUT ‘n Run is a multi-trail, multi-event race for both experienced and new trail runners. Races kick off at 9 and 10 a.m.
All proceeds from the event support the Rotary Club of Wausau. The group raises money for local youth programs and gives out college scholarships.
New to this year’s event are the Senior 5K, Junior 5K and one mile Kids’ WRUT n’ Fun Run. The challenging Senior 5K, designed for experienced trail runners, follows a trail up the mountain. Beginning and intermediate trail runners will find the Junior 5K less intimidating but still a challenge. The trail runs horizontally along the ski area.
There is still time to sign up. You can do so Friday night from 6-8 pm at Noodles & Company located at 1800 Stewart Ave, Wausau. Or the day of event from 8-9:30 am at Granite Peak Ski Area, located at 3605 North Mountain Road, in Wausau.
