The Independence day celebration was in full swing today in Stevens Point. The festivities kicked off this afternoon with the annual 4th of July parade.
The theme of this year's parade: Broad stripes and bright lights. Families packed the sidewalks along main street to catch glimpses of all the floats.
Debbie Manthey marched in today's parade, and said she thinks the parade is a good reminder of what the 4th of July is all about.
"The idea is to promote patriotism and to promote our veterans," said Manthey, "People forget about that... (but) that's what the 4th is all about."
Participants and spectators sure had perfect weather for the parade today. Many of them said it was the best weather they've had in years.
