The husband of missing Minnesota woman presumed dead, has pleaded not guilty in her murder.

Jeffrey Trevino entered the pleas Friday in Ramsey County Court in Minnesota. He's charged with two counts of second-degree murder and remains behind bars on a $1 million bond.

Thursday night, Kira’s loved ones prayed for justice. They lit candles and held a vigil at Keller Lake in Maplewood, Minnesota. That’s where clues in the search for Kira have led investigators.

Other family members are back out at Keller Lake in Maplewood Friday continuing the search.

Authorities says items of interest recovered during a search of a missing woman near a Minneapolis area lake include a pillow, clothing and sponge had DNA matching Kira Trevino Steger.

Kira Trevino Steger, 30, was last Feb. 21. Her husband, Jeffrey is charged with her murder although a body has still not been recovered.

According to the amended criminal complaint, obtained by a Saint Paul newspaper, a witness told police that early on Feb. 22, "she was driving on Highway 61 next to Keller Lake in Maplewood, 1.8 miles from the Trevino home and saw two males on the frozen lake struggling to carry something that, to the witness, appeared the size of a person but wrapped in something."

Last weekend, divers and cadaver dogs searched the lake but did not recover a body.

Five searches have been organized for this weekend: Keller Lake on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m., Beaver Lake in St. Paul on Saturday at 2 p.m., Round Lake in Maplewood on Sunday at 2 p.m., and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge from 86th Street to Minnesota 77 in Bloomington on Sunday at 2 p.m.

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) -- Authorities searched a Maplewood lake but found no signs of a missing St. Paul woman presumed dead.

Divers searched Keller Lake Tuesday for the body of Kira Trevino. Police say cadaver dogs gave a sign of a possible cadaver scent on the lake's west side but the search wrapped up that afternoon with nothing found.

Volunteers turned up something of interest during a search of Keller Regional Park last weekend for clues in Trevino's disappearance. Police have not disclosed what it was.

The 30-year-old central Wisconsin native disappeared Feb. 21. Her husband, Jeffery Trevino, has been charged with her murder after large amounts of blood were found in their home.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports police say it was the first time divers were used in the case.

The search for the body of Kira Trevino Steger, who disappeared nearly a month ago, has resumed at Keller Lake, according to WCCO-TV.

St. Paul Police said Tuesday that search and rescue dogs led them to search Keller Lake, which is about two miles away from the Trevino’s home. Divers are currently combing the lake.

After receiving a tip, they sent dogs to the lake and later, cadaver dogs directed authorities to a specific spot on the lake.

Kira Trevino Steger, 30, has been missing since Feb. 21. Three days later, her husband, Jeffery Trevino reported her disappearance, saying she was suffering “a midlife crisis.” So far, police say the search has not yielded any results.

After more than two weeks, the volunteer search for Kira Trevino Stegers’s body in Minnesota is still going strong.

Searcher Ben Lilly wore waders as he searched a river in Keller Park Sunday. He and his wife were friends with Kira since high school.

“Hopefully the ice goes out soon and there’s no snow on the ground. Makes it a little easier. Gotta start somewhere,” Lilly said during an interview with WCCO-TV.

He described his friend as a “bubbly, fun loving girl.”

St. Paul Police say they have received a new piece of evidence, but they won’t say what. Searchers say it’s enough to keep them fighting the odds, sifting through rivers and searching through snow.

Lilly says he’s searching for items like clothing and shopping bags. And even though they’ve seen the occasional signs of hope, they haven’t found the feeling they are looking for – closure.

“Not enough to listen to police and hear what they have to say. Gotta be out there for yourself,” he said.
