UPDATE: Victim in Friday's Fatal Crash ID'ed

The Portage County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a man who died during a traffic accident on Friday.

According to a news release, the driver was traveling northbound on I-39 just north of US Highway 10/State Highway 66 when she lost control and struck a guardrail. It happened just before 1 pm.

The driver was able to exit the vehicle on her own and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old Rick Walters, of Stevens Point was trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced dead the scene.

A press release states neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Excessive speed for the weather conditions is considered to be the primary factor in the cause of the crash.
