(Press Release) Madison —State Senator Julie Lassa (D-Stevens Point) issued the following statement today:
“I am greatly disappointed that our talks with Governor Walker and the Republican Senate leadership over the budget repair bill have so far failed to lead to a compromise. I and my Democratic Senate colleagues have offered several alternatives that would allow us to balance the budget without layoffs or stripping public workers of their rights. For their part, public workers have agreed to all the financial concessions the Governor proposed. All they want is to keep their hard-won right to a voice in the workplace.
“Unfortunately, the Governor and Republican leaders have steadfastly refused to consider any serious modification to the bill. Instead, Governor Walker continues to threaten thousands of Wisconsin workers and their families with layoffs, using them as political pawns. Yesterday I was hopeful that negotiations were progressing and that a solution could be found. Instead, the Governor has walked away from yet another opportunity to show leadership that would move our state forward.”
