ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Authorities have suspended a search for a missing 31-year-old survivalist from Wisconsin who set out alone in the Alaska wilderness in late September.

Alaska State Troopers on Monday said efforts were suspended after a 13-day aerial and ground search for Thomas Seibold of Three Lakes, Wis. A final sortie was made Saturday in a steep mountainous region in northwest Alaska.

The search covered about 3,500 square miles.

Thomas has been described as an experienced outdoorsman who works as an instructor at the Talking Drum Outdoor School.

Troopers say Seibold parted from traveling companions in late September to spend time with nature and had planned to stay at a remote cabin through October.

He had booked a flight home to Wisconsin on Nov. 15, but he never made the flight.
