Safe Ride Program Prevents Drunk Driving

Bars across the area say they do not expect the sub-zero temperatures forecasted for this New Year's Eve to have a negative impact on business.

That is why many bars are making an effort to ensure that everyone gets home safe this holiday. Tavern Leagues across the state are offering Safe Ride vouchers to bar patrons. This allows them take a free taxi ride home from the bar if they have had too much to drink.

Oneida County is one of the places in our area with the Safe Ride program. Each month about 350 people take advantage of the program. Tonight, one bar is taking things one step further to ensure people get home safe. Big Daddy's Bar in Rhinelander has found a solution to the common issue of patrons have difficulty finding cabs on this busy night.

"What I do at Big Daddy's is I just take my patrons home because everyone is taking a cab and to alleviate the backlog of the cab company I just take my customers home. I want to make sure everyone gets home safe." says Owner Aaron Schultz.

They are hoping that the more convenient getting home safely is, the more likely people will be to take advantage of it.
