Trying to Piece Together Structure Fire in Weston
Investigators are still trying to piece together what caused a Saturday night fire that destroyed a Subway restaurant, but according to Weston Fire Chief Steve Meilahn, it has been ruled not suspicious.
It happened on the corner of Weston Avenue and Stone Ridge Drive in Weston just before 9 p.m.
Chief Meilahn says seven different departments responded to the call. “Upon arrival, we had flames through the roof. With the wind conditions we had last night, it helped spread the fire through the entire building. At one point, we had four ladders completely defensive from the exterior to knock the fire down."
No one was hurt in the fire, but Chief Meilahn says one firefighter did break his ankle when he slipped on ice.
The chief says this is one of the biggest fires his crew has battled in a long time. He also said the building is a complete loss, and damage is estimated at $1 million.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but insurance investigators will continue to work on it.
