College Students Pump Gas in Stevens Point to Raise Money for Wheelchair

Updated: Thu 10:00 AM, Jan 24, 2013

Brian Southworth and Jerad Servais spent Wednesday morning pumping gas for anyone who would let them, working to earn tips they plan to donate to Dillon's Fund.

On Memorial Day, Dillon Sus was in a car accident along Highway 64 and Hill Road in Antigo. He and four other high school students were heading north and went through a stop sign when their car was hit. Two passengers died and Dillon was paralyzed after being thrown from the car.

Now Southworth, Servais and other members of their fraternity Tau Kappa Epsilon are raising money to give Dillon a gift that keeps on giving.

"These funds are actually going to go towards his wheelchair. It's a track wheelchair especially designed," Southworth shared.

"I think just more accessibility and just the freedom is going to really greatly change his life. Just being more independent on his own," Servais said.

Despite never meeting Dillon in person, both Southworth and Servais say they each feel connected to him in some way.

"He's an outdoors man, I'm an outdoors man so the connection is there," says Southworth.

"I heard he was 19 so that really, really made a big difference because guys in our fraternity are 19, 20, 21 and if this happened that would just be devastating to us and our families," Servais sympathized.

The wheelchair costs $14,000 and so far Tau Kappa Epsilon has raised a little over $200. The fraternity started the project in September and plan to continue every Wednesday until the end of spring semester in May.

If you want to help them, all you have to do is stop by the Shell station on Church Street in Stevens Point between the hours of 10 am and noon and let the boys pump your gas. You can also send donations directly to the Shell gas station.

Dillon's father is the owner of that location.
