MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison police are confirming that the burned out car containing human remains found Monday outside of Columbus belongs to a Madison man who has been missing since December.
WISC-TV reports police are saying the car belonged to 22-year-old Joseph Sjoberg, who was first noticed missing in November when he didn't show up for work.
Law enforcement sources say Sjoberg's cell phone had pinged in the area in December and there were plans for a ground search this weekend now that the snow has melted.
The station reports Columbia County authorities are working to identify the remains, described as "only bones" by a farmer who said found the car while trimming along a fence line.
Madison police say foul play isn't suspected.
