Plover Man Wins Iron Man World Title

A 2.4-mile swim + 112-mile bike ride + 26.2-mile run = an iron man competition.

Plover's Rick Simpson is iron man.

After winning the regional competition in Louisville, Simpson qualified for the world championships in Kona, Hawaii last month.

He did all three in a time of 10-hours-55-minutes-and-16-seconds, and was crowned Iron Man World Champion in the 60-64 age group.

Shockingly, Rick has only been competing in triathlons for seven years. But this soon to be 61-year-old jumped right into the iron man lifestyle which includes training for 25 hours a week leading up to a race.

But it all paid off when he nabbed first in the world and set a new course record.
