Obama: Birth Control Policy Meets Everyone's Needs

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says a revamped birth control policy will both protect religious liberties and protect women's access to contraception.

Speaking at the White House, Obama announced changes to the policy that has generated criticism from religious groups and others who say it would force them to violate their faith.

Obama urged politicians not to use the complicated matter as a wedge issue.

Under the changes, religious employers will not have to cover birth control for their employees. Instead, the government will demand that insurance companies be directly responsible for providing free contraception.

As a Catholic I am amazed at the hypocrisy of the Catholic church. I come to church for spirituality not a political agenda. The church needs to focus on the people that are here not the potential ones, they need to get out of birth control policies! If religious organizations want to drive policies then they need to become taxpayers. Separation of church and State gives everyone the ability to worship if they so chose as they wish. The Catholic Church needs to understand there are people who do not follow their views and accept it.

To each and every one of you, you may want to think very carefully about the presidential candidates. Learn their plans, learn about them and their ideas. Do you really really want these men to handle your destiny? Do you want these men to control your birth control, your bedroom, your child raising, your vote and your future. These could all be lost with the in your future.

To the church: You have larger problems that need to be corrected than birth control. How many poor children will carry scars the rest of their life. Your church did nothing to control these priests. Worse yet you allowed them to move freely from one community to another. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. The Lord, I assume you still believe in the Lord, will one day punish you.

Should the Catholic church worry about birth control? I believe they have a much larger problem than that.

I am amazed that this is even a story. I have a number of friends who do use or have used birth control and still sit in the front of the Catholic church each Sunday. Now look at the number of children people have today compared to generations past. Do you really feel people are not using birth conrol? It is easy to say they do not use, but it is not telling the truth. How is this for looking staight into the birth control problem?

To Anonymous, I am more outraged that you Catholics still believe in and protect the church who has done nothing to protect your children. I would have thought that the child comes first. but evidently not. Sad!

I doubt the Lord would place the church above the children when it came to what has happened. You worry more about church and state than about a samll child. This is sick.

You voting Obama out will require you to vote Republican. If you have been watching the news and debates they want birth control done away with. Santorm doesn't believe birth control should be a womens right or choice. There was an article stating he feels his belief may cause a loss of womens votes. Wouldn't you think! There are many other changes that they want too. The Republicans will set this country back 50-70 years, Depends on how many senators and representatives are also elected to congress. This is a scary fact. Women should think before voting. The next thing they will move to, is take away womens voting rights. Don't say never, it could happen. We have saw laws amended before. We have saw the constitution amended. Think prohabition in the 30's! Nice thought isn't it?

Nicely done Obama! You've side-stepped the crazy religious right and provide access to birth control for all women! I commend your effort Mr. President! Obama 2012!

So, where does that leave the employees of the religous organizations that "self-insure"?

Most religious organizations do not self insure, they are too small so in essence what he is saying is that that even tho a religious organization will not have to cover contraceptives their insurance co will have to and what insurance company has ever given away something free?? Everyone will have to pay for this!!

because insurance don't pay they get sued, when sued they also get fined. Then it goes to the headlines. Then more protests.
