Get ready, get set, they're off!
This weekend, nearly 2,000 local athletes are competing for medals in the 40th Anniversary of the Wisconsin Special Olympics. Swimming, track and field, powerlifting, and soccer competitions are being held through Saturday at UW-Stevens Point.
Many participants receive medals, but most of the athletes seem to just enjoy competing.
"They can finish 4th and still feel like they're a winner, which is great," says Wendy Fix, an organizer. "We can all take a lesson from that."
