Hundreds of people are in town for the 6th Annual NRA State Convention this weekend at The Plaza Hotel. Every year the National Rifle Association holds a state convention, giving people a chance to see seminars, exhibits and a gun show.
Governor Scott Walker spoke about gun rights and freedom at the banquet Saturday night.
"It's the right of everyone in the state, every homeowner, every individual to make sure they can stand up and protect their homes, property, but most importantly, their families," said Walker.
Many people at the convention say they are members of the NRA because it's their 2nd amendment right to bear arms. The convention is an effort to preserve those rights.
Leaders say even though having a gun is a right, it needs to be done safely, especially when it comes to children.
"Eddie Eagle's message is 'stop, don't touch, leave the area, and tell an adult'," says Buster Bachhuber, on the NRA Board of Directors. "We don't want youngsters hurt with firearms. I don't care how you paint us, that's not anything that anyone wants to see."
The Eddie Eagle program teaches gun safety to children through the 4th grade and has reached over 20 million children to date.
Other topics at the seminar included saving our ranges, improvements to the department of natural resources, and Wisconsin's Personal Protection Act.
