The Medical College of Wisconsin here in our area is another step closer to opening up. Wednesday, it announced its dean.
Dr. Lisa Dodson will serve as liaison for health systems and academic partners for the college. Academic partners include Northcentral Technical College, UW Stevens Point and Aspirus.
Dr. Dodson hopes the local ties will help keep young healthcare professionals in the community.
"The idea is to create a smaller campus that appeals to students that come from smaller communities to train in those areas and return, or stay here for practice," Dr. Dodson said, "so we know that if you do medical training, both your residency and your medical years, in a smaller community, you're 70% likelier to stay."
The Wausau campus is expected to open in 2016.
