Despite the rainy weather, it’s been a better than usual snowmobile season for riders right here in Marathon County.

Riders have already had twice as many days to get out on the trails this year than all of last year’s season.

Club members of Trailmates Snowmobile Club have been out enjoying the trails as much as they can, but board members wish the season could have started sooner.

Board member Alan Zahrt says "We're still starting out a little later than normal. We like to start around the Christmas season and go all the way through February. We had a small window in January but now were open full. We are having a late start but were pleased. Trails are really in nice shape. They’re working out very well."

He says that Mother Nature has given the club exactly what they want and need, a few inches spread out through the week. That is until the latest round of rain. Zahrt says he’s optimistic the rain won’t deteriorate the trails too much.
