K Route Bus Service Back Up and Running For 2 Weeks, But Is It Being Used?

As of Wednesday, the bus service that provides rides for the Village of Weston, Rothschild and Schofield has been up and running for two weeks.

It’s called the K Route and got a lot of attention when the service was cancelled. That left those who use the bus having to find their own means of transportation.

Now, the service is running again and it's being used by around 50 riders a day, says Metro Ride Transit Director, Greg Seubert.

To get a feel for how much the service is actually being used, NewsChannel 7’s Al Knox decided to hop on a take a ride. He rode the bus for the 10:45 route, and only saw about six people in all.

Metro Ride Transit Director Greg Seubert says the bus company has received a lot of calls and that one ride doesn’t show the real numbers. He says the bus has actually drawn a lot of interest from people in the community- despite what we saw.

"People want to know all about the bus system. They want to know when does the bus stop? They are also very concerned about getting stranded. We get many calls because there is a learning curve,” says Seubert.

As of now, the K Route bus runs seven routes a day. It used to be 12 routes, but having less routes a day, saves all the communities the bus provides to thousands of dollars.

The Transit Director says the bus service for Weston, Schofield and Rothschild cost right around $85,000 a year.

Seubert says it's tough to get exact numbers on how much it cost for each rider since the service is only in its second week.
