We're less than 24 hours away from the start of the 9-day gun deer hunting season and many hunters spent the day gearing up for the cold winter weather.
Sales associates at Gander Mountain in Wausau tell NewsChannel 7 they already had a line forming before they opened Friday morning. Good thing hunting expert Bill Schoepke was there to help. He says many of the people coming in were looking for items to keep them warm.
"Layering is the key," he explains. "Just because it's a heavy jacket doesn't mean it's the warmest option. Obviously, we got a little bit of snow and so forth. Wear something with fleece that will help control your temperature."
Schoepke says there are also a few high tech options for hunters this year including, lithium ion foot warmers that can be controlled using a remote. Other popular items include hand warmers, adhesive body warmers and long johns.
