Granite Peak Open For Only One More Weekend

This weekend was set as the tentative last weekend for Granite Peak's ski and snowboarding season to be open, but the manager said because of the forecast, they plan to keep it open for one more spring weekend.

This tentative last weekend brought many people out to the slopes, however. The parking lot was packed. The weather was warm and even brought out some tailgaters getting ready for the Badgers' Final Four match up on Saturday.

"There's snow and we love to ski and you can't be doing anything else but skiing today. This is it. Right here. What else is there to do, other than watch the Badger game later," said tailgater and skier, Norm Green. "It's spring skiing. It's 40 and sunny."

Despite the warm temperatures and the constant melting and then refreezing, the resort's manager said the snow is great.

"Even with the rain the other night, they groomed and they re-groomed and we got a couple of inches of new snow on top of that so, conditions have been really great," said General Manager, Vicki Baumann.

The slopes will close Monday through Thursday and reopen one final time this season for Friday, April 11 through Sunday, April 13.
