Law enforcement efforts to fight drunk driving in our state are showing positive results. In fact, in the past decade, deaths from alcohol-related crashes dropped 47 percent.
Thanks in part to the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. Starting today, law enforcement will crack down on traffic violations with an emphasis on drunk drivers.
Lt. Terry McHugh, with the Kronenwetter Police Department, said the whole point is to save as many lives as they can. "We just hope to drive down the number of fatalities, and the number of traffic accidents. Period," said McHugh, "And of course the big one is drop the number of OWIs down."
In another effort to prevent drunk driving, the Zero in Wisconsin traffic safety initiative has a free "Drive Sober" app. It can be downloaded by visiting zeroinwisconsin.gov
