If like many other people, your pets are your prized possession, you had a chance to showcase them today in Wausau.
It was the 4th annual Humane Society of Marathon County Paws On the Path event. The shelter invited people from around the area to come out and enjoy a walk with their dogs.
The idea is to raise money for the humane society, one of the main ways the shelter keeps its doors open.
Humane Society of Marathon County President, Linda Berna-Karger says, events like this one are crucial to the society. “The humane society is really dependant upon these fundraisers. and donations from the public and businesses. Without that money, would not even be able to operate."
Participants could choose either a 1/2 mile or 2 mile walk beginning and ending at the animal shelter and winding through Sunny Vale Park.
Prizes were awarded to those who raised the most money. Organizers say they expect around $6,000 coming from the walk.
Those in charge say that money will help with the many expenses the humane society deals with each day.
