UPDATE: Barn Fire Near Wittenberg Contained

The Shawano County Sheriff's Department says a barn fire in the Town of Wittenberg is contained.

The call came in just before 5:00 PM Sunday evening.

Five fire departments including Wittenberg, Tigerton, Bowler, Hatley and Birnamwood were on hand for several hours as crews battled the blaze. County Highway M was also temporarily closed. It is now back open.

It is still unclear if any people or animals were injured in the fire, but dispatch tells NewsChannel 7 they did not believe anyone was hurt.

The Wittenberg Fire Department is still investigating what could have caused the fire.

Wittenberg, Tigerton and Birnamwood Fire Departments are on scene.
