Doctors say in today's day and age, fast food is so available it makes it hard for anyone to lose weight.
It's always available on-the-go, and it tastes good.
Marshfield Clinic doctors have been working with patients in their HMR Program for Weight Management.
In 2013, Central Wisconsin people lost more than 5,000 in the program combined.
The program helps people lose weight through research and doctors support.
There's three routes you can go.
The first is a Decision-Free Diet. It's a low-, or very low-calorie diet (500-800 kcals/day) promotes rapid and significant weight loss under medical supervision.
The second is a Healthy Solutions Diet. It's a moderately restricted calorie diet (1,200-1,400 kcals/day) offered with or without medical supervision.
The third way is an HMR at Home diet. This is an at-home version of the Healthy Solutions Diet that includes home delivery of HMR diet foods and all program support materials.
Local couple Terry and Janet Bennett said the program helped them lose more than 200 pounds together.
Terry and Janet Bennett met in college.
They fell in love and have been married for 24 years. They have the rings to prove it.
"He never touched a vegetable in all of our marriage," Janet Bennett said.
Janet said she knew healthy squash was never an option for dinner.
"What he doesn't know is that he did eat squash before, and I had to sneak it into the pizza sauce," Janet said.
It was never an option until they lost 200 lbs together in one year.
"Well you don't get to be 350 lbs with good eating habits," Terry Bennett said.
"I think these two were very motivated to change their lifestyle lose weight and be healthier," Dr. Herbert Macalalad, director of the program, said.
Terry lost 149 lbs, and Janet lost 60 pounds through Marshfield Clinic's HMR Program for Weight Management.
They joined the 2013 statistics.
Putting the numbers together, 70 Wausau patients lost 2785.5 lbs, 87 Minocqua patients lost 2072.5 lbs and nine Marshfield patients lost 213.4 lbs, all totalling 5071.4 lbs.
"They (the patients) want to be healthy. They want to improve their blood sugar control or even eliminate their medications," Dr. Macalalad said.
Wanting to push through another notch on Terry's old belt isn't the only thing that reminds both of them of the weight they lost.
"You could have done it without me," Janet said to Terry. "No, I couldn't have," Terry said.
Loosing the weight together was their secret to living a healthier life, but being able to maintain healthy habits together is even better, even if their wedding rings ...
"Our rings are both too big," Janet said.
Don't fit as snug as they used to.
"For a while, it's almost like dating again," Janet said. "He really does remind me now of the guy I met in college."
Janet's said she gets her 30 minutes of exercise a day by doing 10 minutes at a time.
Terry said eating a lot of food is OK, just as long as it's healthy.
Doctors said you should check with your insurance to see if it covers this program.
