An Antigo High School Special Education teacher is expected to be charged with possession of THC following an extensive investigation in Langlade, Lincoln and Shawano Counties.

Joe Adams, 54, resigned from the Antigo School District on March 7. Prior to that he had been on paid administrative leave since January 20. Charges were filed February 9. Monday in Langlade County Court, he pleaded not guilty to one count possession of THC. Another Antigo High School Special Ed teacher, Mark Incha, 45, is expected to be charged March 30 for the same crime. He also resigned March 7 and had been on paid administrative leave since January 20.

Jay Peterson, 49, a middle school teacher and high school coach is also facing the charge in Langlade County. He too will return to court on March 30.

Scot Peterson, a former Antigo High School football coach and retired special education teacher, is facing 26 charges including manufacturing THC. Court documents state Scot Peterson admitted to selling marijuana to Incha, Adams, and Jay Peterson along with two other Antigo District employees; Jeff Neufeld and John Lund. Currently no legal action has been taken against Neufeld. No charges have been filed yet against Dan Wittman, an elementary school gym teacher also on paid leave. John Lund will return to court March 19 to enter a plea to eight drug charges. Lund is the former principal of Pleasant View and West Elementary schools. He was also the high school football coach.

According to the criminal complaint, Incha told investigators on December 6 he obtained a gram or two from Scot Peterson, at Peterson’s home. Incha told police the last time he bought marijuana was summer time. Police also questioned Joe Adams on December 6. He told investigators he smoked “dope” on the weekends, and had also purchased it from Scot Peterson. Adams also said John Lund would give him a “bud” or a “blunt” once in awhile.

Jay Peterson told investigators he had picked up a bag or “dope” from Scot Peterson once or twice. Jay Peterson is the brother of Scot Peterson. Jay Peterson said he would get a joint or bowl during deer season, and knew other people from Merrill were getting it there, too.

Merrill School District Interim Superintendent, Bruce Anderson told NewsChannel 7 in January, Pete Miller, a former athletic director and scorekeeper for the school is no longer working for the district. However, Miller is still a referee for the WIAA and may have contact with the school in that way. Anthony Crabb, a substitute teacher has also been relieved from teaching future classes with the school. To clarify, Miller and Crabb are not on paid leave. However, Jay Peterson was placed on paid leave. Monday, in Langlade County Court Crabb pleaded not guilty to one count of possession of THC. He'll return to court April 9 for a status conference. Miller is expected to be charged March 30.

Joe Adams teaches behaviorally disturbed teenagers and coaches sports. He is a fine, gentle, caring individual, who would help anyone in need. A friend of mine had him as a teacher, every day Mr. Adams would bring extra sandwiches from home for kids who didnt have a lunch. Seeing his face on the news like he is some kind of a criminal is sad. He didnt hurt anybody. Sure he shouldnt smoke pot, but everyone makes mistakes. Don't hang the guy!

A crime is a crime, and the punishment is adjusted for the crime committed. Even Jeffrey Dahmer appeared to be a nice guy until he got caught in a crime.

Why do people say he was busted for "just smoking" pot? Wasn't he busted for growing and selling...I believe he had about a pound in his possession and many many charges? That is a far cry from a guy "just smoking" in his house.

Read the police report, just click on the link at the bottom of the article. The only marijuana found was 18 grams at Mr. Petersons. The county decided that was enough to charge 36 felonies and some misdemeanors, to the people named. The two teachers in the picture said they had smoked pot. They are being charged for saying that, not for possessing any. I didn't realize that you were a criminal for saying that you did something illegal. Even if saying you smoked pot turns out to be a crime, its an awful long shot to use Dahmer as a comparison, c,mon he killed and ate people.

Eight felony charges for smoking? Not the felony charges. Half those charges were for manufacturing and distribution. Three were for possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and one for maintaining a drug trafficking place. Yeah, it sounds like the police broke into his house while he was listening to Pink Floyd.

If we can’t keep drugs out of prisons where guards patrol 24 hours a day and where cavity searches are the norm, why do we think we will ever have a “drug-free” school, park, workplaces, or America?

Great idea....then not only do we have to worry about all the drunk drivers out there killing people, but all the pot heads too!! Let one of your loved ones be killed by a stoned driver and then tell us to wake up and legalize it!!! These adults are suppose to mentors to our children!!!!

I think you already have to worry about stoned drivers. Just because marijuana is illegal now, doesn't mean that magically that there are no stoned drivers. Conversely, if it were legalized, just because it were legalized wouldn't mean that magically there are a lot more stoned drivers. The DUI laws should still apply. Keeping marijuana illegal just keeps an additional revenue stream.

Time to legalize pot people!! Pot didn't arrive last year in WI nor is it going any place. I see most of you are too scared to even use your own name. I'm ashamed at my home state for not being more progressive. Time to legalize gay marriage and legalize pot. If you can't deal with that then time to close all the bars in Wisconsin and lockup all the alcoholics. GET WITH IT WISCONSIN!!!!

Educators know more about your home life than you'd care for them to know. It's amazing how well children adjust to adverse conditions at home and thrive at school! It's a safe haven. Check out how well these schools performed under Lund's leadership. They were at a safe haven! This happens regardless of what professional people do on their own time.

Antigo is one of the worst cities in the U.S., per ratio of people. These teachers are suppose to be mentors and leaders to our children. So say a child confides in one of these teachers that one or both of their parents are smoking, selling marijuana and it bothers or scares them. Do you really think this teacher is going to contact authorities? Naaaahhh......probably buying from the same dealer or worried when one is busted, a lot more get busted!!! My guess is, they aren't willing to risk that. There is one person they think about....themselves. Fire them and give them what they deserve. They're no better than the next druggy!!

you know they dont want you to home school your kids but yet they want you to send them off to learn from drugies or pedifhiles not just in Wisconsin but if you have read any news articles lately , it is all over United States. How can anybody feel safe sending there children to school. Paying these people so much and such great benefits.Same as i had read in another article about the bus driver being drunk and other in the department knowing about it and let it go.i know of a bus driver that ran into the back of astopped Semi, injured many and killed 1 student ,got nothing out of it

It's amazing what teachers hear from students on what goes on in their homes. I don't believe most parents want to know what teachers REALLY know what is going on in their homes. It's amazing what kids say! I heard that a student told a counselor during an anti-smoking discussion that his mom smoked out of a tube!

    bravo! well said!!
  • by Anonymous on Feb 10, 2012 at 05:48 PM
I would just like to point out that there are people I went to school with twenty plus years ago, and they admit that they got weed from some of these teachers. If it was going on over twenty years ago, how can you think it isn't still going on?! Argue all you want that it doesn't have anything to do with the kids, because as the investigation continues, I think you might be shocked at what you learn!
