They’re divided by a river, but Wausau East and West aren’t letting that come between them. For their annual Food Drive, they’re leaving the competition on the football field, and teaming up to give back.
Both high schools have a goal to each fill a semi full of food items. Once everything is collected, the food will be taken to the Neighbors Place and the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.
Elizabeth Nakhla, a senior at Wausau West told us, “Knowing that you can help the community in several ways to donate food and help people who maybe cant afford food is amazing. We want to help make people’s lives better by bringing them food they don’t have to pay for.”
But once the Log Game rolls around, all bets are off. However, both schools will continue to take food items till the end of the game. Organizers are hoping that with the joint effort, more food will be collected and the space that divides them will get a little smaller.
