Paul Proulx and Tom Koth are counting down the days to Sept. 10. Both men are running on the Republican ticket for Lincoln County sheriff.
Because there is no Democrat in the race, the primary will decide the election. So many voters will have to choose between picking their next sheriff and voting in the Democratic primary for governor.
Because this is the partisan primary, voters can only vote for one party. If they cross over their ballot will be thrown out.
The county clerk recommends voters select a party preference at the top of the ballot. If they do that, only the votes for that party will count, but if they cross over the ballot will not be thrown out.
Two years ago, over 600 ballots were thrown out because voters crossed over.
