Authorities have released the name of the woman killed in a plane crash Saturday in Wood County.
Thirty-nine-year-old Kimberly Reed died after the plane she was riding in crashed into the Wisconsin River in the of Port Edwards. Reed was visiting the Wisconsin Rapids area from Michigan with her family.
The pilot, 42-year-old Mark Strub of Wisconsin Rapids, was giving free rides as part of a nearby balloon rally. He escaped with only minor injuries and left the scene to call for help.
"He was able to remove himself from the plane and make it to Domtar Support Division and make a 9-1-1 call," said Wood County Sheriff Kurt Heuer.
The plane crashed into the Wisconsin River after hitting power lines. The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
