A Marathon County man will pay the state thousands of dollars for septic tank violations.
The owner of the Country Air Bar and Banquet Hall in Stratford was accused of emptying the contents of the building's holding tank onto the ground himself, instead of having it legally pumped out by a septic hauler.
A complaint filed by the Attorney General says Duane Bohman pumped the septic tank out onto the ground at least 33 times between May of 1997 and June of 2003. Some of the contents reportedly flowed downstream into Hamann Creek.
Under the terms of the settlement, Bohman will pay penalties of $15,000 and use a DNR certified hauler to empty the tank in the future.
