Anton Anday is a very proud man Sunday. He's been awarded with the prestigious Americanism Award. It's the first time the Stevens Point Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution has ever bestowed the national honor on anyone.

The award is given to an immigrant to the U.S. who has contributed greatly to their community. Anday came to America from Hungary in 1959 at the age of 14. He's taught history for 35 years, 32 of those in the Stevens Point system.

"I'm very fortunate. I'm very lucky because I got the award, but I want to share it with all the people around me because they truly deserve it. They served their community as well," Anday says.

The ceremony coincided with the Portage County Historical Society Rendezvous at the Heritage Park in Plover. The annual event raises money to support the Historical Society.
