The Good News Project : Changing the Lives of West Indians One Volunteer at a Time

People who live in poverty face many struggles in life.

But that problems many West Indians face are only magnified by the fact that they have no sound family structure, and are left to face their trials and tribulations alone.

But volunteers with the Good News Project do whatever they can to improve those people's lives.

In the West Indies, the average person makes between six and nine thousand dollars a year, but a lot of people make less than that... and some.. nothing at all. And only making matters worse is that many people have no family support.

Most often the poor, the unfortunate and the disabled end up in institutions offering free living assistance, but little to no social interaction.

Except for one month a year, when volunteers with the Good News Project fly in.

Every January, volunteers make it a point to visit people and places no one else does.

They visit the elderly, giving them a little bit of interaction and affection.

They always leave the aging laughing and smiling like children.

Volunteers also make it a point to visit disabled children.

We all know kids require a lot of attention, love and nurturing.

And for some of these children, the only time they get that is when people with Good News provide it.

Even if they can't express their gratitude, the sparkle in their eyes shows just how big of an impression these small acts of kindness make.

Whether it's reading a book, or playing some cards

They always leave the aging laughing and smiling like children.

Volunteers also make it a point to visit disabled children.

We all know kids require a lot of attention, love and nurturing.

And for some of these children, the only time they get that is when people with Good News provide it.

Even if they can't express their gratitude, the sparkle in their eyes shows just how big of an impression these small acts.

This year, a total of 88 Good News volunteers traveled to the West Indies.
