The weather isn't perfect, but that isn't stopping the competition at the Special Olympics summer games in Stevens Point.

In fact, that cool, rainy weather may even turn out to be a good thing for some of the businesses in the area.

Organizers say the more than 6,000 people visiting point for the games are already helping the area's restaurants and hotels.

And with the rain forcing people inside, the spending goes up.

"I think especially when you have a weekend where there's rain. The restaurants certainly were bombarded yesterday since we cancelled our opening ceremony," said Kelly Kloepping, Special Olympics marketing director.

Kloepping says the rain can help businesses besides the restaurants, as well.

She says plenty of athletes and their families headed out to buy ponchos and warmer clothes once they realized the weather would be less than perfect this weekend.
