Charter communications is using a new technology called "Voice-Over Internet Protocol.”
The technology allows you to make a phone call using a broadband connection, instead of a regular, or analog, phone line. Monday charter communications announced they'll be using it to provide customers with another option for phone service.
“We are proud of the fact that in Wausau was the very first commercially deployed voice-over IP internet protocol service in North America,” says VP of Operations Lisa Wasah.
Right now the technology is only available for residential customers. Charter officials say if you choose to switch over to their service, you could keep your same phone number.
