It marks the first public acquisition of land by the American Transmission Company for their power line project.

The Marathon School Board granted an easement of three acres for the Arrowhead-Weston line. District Administrator Gary Adams felt it was better for the school to allow the line on their land rather than having it go through private land.

In exchange for the easement, the school district will receive $240,000 and will continue using the land as a study area for class projects. The parcel is between Edgar and Marathon in an 80 acre forest.

The Marathon County Board is still considering whether to allow the ATC line through part of the Nine Mile Recreation Area. A decision on that is expected next week.
