A Wisconsin National Guard unit based in Monroe is being activated -- initially for up to a year.
The activation of the 64th Rear Operations Center is part of the mobilization ordered last year by President Bush in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The 49-soldier unit activate at their Monroe armory early next month, then move on to Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Five years ago the unit was activated to support peace-keeping efforts in the Balkans and served for about eight months.
